Graphics: A Controversy Among The Pokémon Fandom

After the global release of the highly anticipated game Pokémon Legends: Arceus, fans demonstrated their disappointment in its low-quality graphics.

Since its first announcement back in February 2021, Pokémon fans have been excited for the release of Pokémon Legends: Arceus in the famous Nintendo Switch console. The games promised an adventure like no other, breaking the schemes of Pokémon games forever. After a month of its release on January 28th, players have been able to explore the game to the fullest, confirming what was promised by the game developers. However, some have also started complaining about the low-quality graphics that this Nintendo Switch title has.

The low-quality graphics controversy has been present in the Pokémon fandom for a long period of time, specifically, since the games Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield were released back in 2019. Fans demonstrated their discontent with the poor visuals of these games, especially because they belong to a powerful console like the Nintendo Switch. When compared to other games from the same console, such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Kirby and the Forgotten Land, it is evident that the work that has been put in the visuals of Pokémon games is null.

After several years, it was expected that The Pokémon Company would have learned their lesson and put more effort into the graphics of their games. However, the release of Pokémon Legends: Arceus proved fans otherwise. Even though there is a good sector of people that think that graphics are not everything in a game, the vast majority believe that Pokémon games developers should start putting more effort into the visuals of their game, especially since they are a well-known and adored brand.

Even though Pokémon fans were impressed with the gameplay of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, graphics are an aspect that should still be taken care of. With the release of a new Pokémon title at the end of 2022, people are expectant of a game that deserves to be considered a Nintendo Switch title.
