ANS alumna Carmencita Rosales was a guest speaker of the Journalism class last Flex Day, November 15th. About 30 students listened as Carmencita, a TV host, fashion journalist, and brand ambassador, shared insights on discovering her passion in the world of fashion and highlighted the role education played in shaping her career.
Carmencita is recognized by Vida and Exito Magazine’s Roaring 20’s Campaign as one of the most successful young women in Latin America.
She found her passion through her ANS Journalism class and her Capstone project where she interned at VosTV. After graduating ANS in 2018, she studied broadcast journalism at Elon University. At Elon she was a TV host on an entertainment show, a reporter on the Elon University News Channel Network, and a radio host on Elon’s first Spanish radio show: “Tu Cita Favorita” which covered breaking news, Latin trends, and featured music.

In the summer of 2019, Carmencita returned to Nicaragua to again intern at VosTV as an editor, producer, announcer, and presenter. She appeared on a variety of programs featuring national artists, athletes, business executives, and attended concerts and live streaming events.
After graduating from Elon in 2020, Carmencita modeled and created content for brands and companies. She is brand ambassador for companies like Swarovski, Dior, Lolita, Michael Kors, Siman, Moroccan Oil, and Clinique.
She offered a glimpse into the exciting facets of her typical week as a fashion professional and shared how to create a brand including the importance of color, tone for content, key words, and apps/tools that help her be successful.
She regularly attends fashion shows in Costa Rica, Colombia, and recently in Miami for the Latin American Fashion Summit (LAFS). She has also presented at Miss Nicaragua 2022.
You can keep up to date with fashion trends on her show “Tu Cita con Carmencita”, available on Instagram and YouTube.
Students also learned about the dark side of social media and TV. Carmencita shared that “Not everyone is going to like you. There are always people who want to humiliate you and make you feel bad.” Her advice is to focus on those around you who support you with positivity like family and friends. She encourages students to “do something that will make you happy. Do not give up on you”.
Ninth grader Vanessa Ocampos shared, “I feel inspired and hopeful that I too can achieve my dreams, just like Carmencita did”.
